If you need medical help in Indonesia you could find yourself in a world of hurt. I recently performed cpr here on a local accident victim, I had to clear space around her to help. People were simply dumb founded and offering her water and splashing water upon her. Once she was stabilized i stopped taxi and got her in it securely, as I was getting in at least 10 of her relatives jumped in on top of her and there was no room left for me, as a medical first responder I needed to be in that cab but its indo and thats the way it is, off they went to Sanglah hospital in Denpasar.
The next day I went there to see how she was doing, the staff could not locate her, but they were nice enough to let me walk through the hospital to see if I could find her. Which I did not.
What I found was a very filthy place, the rooms all were divided into 4 sections, dirty floors, barefooted relatives sitting in hall ways smoking and spitting, just acceptable activities here.
If you have ever experienced a death in your family or been to crematorium you know what the smell of death is like, well thats what this place smells like.
The way I see it is if the accident does not kill you Sanglah will!!! As there is no emergency ambulances here nor any paramedics here to assist you. You should pre plan for an emergency or you could end up in Sanglah hospital here in Bali.
I suggest that you check the travel assist network link to secure your air evacuation and that you check the link for International SOS, I have personally been there and used their services, this is a first class operation, its where you want to be taken in the event of an emergency. in my hip pack I carry a card offering a 50000 rupiah reward for the person who puts me in the taxi and gets me to International SOS.
its worth it. International SOS offers a first world facility here as well as memberships programs for those of you planning to stay. They are the firm that we will contact in the event you are injured on one of our trips.
Again this is just information for you to use to prepare and to be prepared, I've seen many different accidents here, and you are on your own, best to have the best medical personnel available to help you, but once an accident happens unless you implement the precautions now you will end up in Sanglah, and you will only have yourself to thank.
